About Tara Michaël

Born in Marseille in 1942, Tara Michaël is a distinguished scholar and practitioner in the fields of classical studies, Sanskrit, and Indian spiritual traditions. With advanced degrees in these disciplines, she embarked on her first journey to India in 1968, where she spent several years immersing herself in the authentic paths of yoga and Indian spirituality.

From 1968 to 1970, she studied in Poona under the guidance of the yogini Mataji Indra Devi. Her quest for deeper understanding then took her to Madras (now Chennai) from 1972 to 1980, where she worked closely with the great metaphysician Dr. PK Sundaram and the patron of the arts, Shri. YG Doraisami. During this period, she also delved into the study and practice of Hatha Yoga, Kundalini Yoga, the subtle body of the yogin, the Siddha path, South Indian Shaivism, Vedic symbolism, Vedanta views, and the Shâkta path.

In addition to her profound knowledge of yoga and philosophy, Tara Michaël is an expert in the sacred arts of India. She initially trained in Bharatanatyam before dedicating herself to the Odissi dance form under the tutelage of gurus Ramani Ranjan Jena and Anil Kumar Lenka. Her passion for Indian culture led her to reside in Pondicherry from 2000 to 2007, further deepening her engagement with Indian spiritual and artistic traditions.
